Tesco Store Cullompton, Devon

Client: Britannia Construction

Location: Cullompton, Devon

Duration: 6 weeks

Project Overview: The project comprised of the soft stripping of buildings, removal of asbestos, demolition of the structures and the crushing and screening of all hardcore.

Scope of Work: The inside of the buildings were soft stripped where all loose materials and internal structures were cleared. All material was safely removed in Skips. Asbestos sheets were safely removed in whole sections and sprayed with water to prevent the release of dust and fibres.

A demolition machine removed the gable end wall and the rubble was stockpiled. The steel roof trusses were cut down in a controlled manner using a hydraulic shear. All external walls were left in place while asbestos was removed. Once the asbestos and the demolished roof had been cleared, the side walls were demolished inwards onto the concrete slab. The walls and the floor slabs were excavated and transported to a stockpile for crushing.

This operation was repeated on the modular units along the length of the building. All non-recyclable material was removed to licensed landfill sites and a clear site was handed over to the client.

“Britannia Construction is pleased to work with Smith’s (Gloucester) Limited on a variety of projects, which include major demolition works at the redevelopment of Tesco sites.
