Smiths established
Alan Smith starts out with one excavator and himself as the only operator. Based from home.

Early expansion
Smiths take on second member of staff and purchase a second machine.

Rapid growth
Rapid growth with contract work.

More expansion
Company is split into component parts comprised of: Smiths Construction, Smiths Transport and Smiths Plant Hire.

Smiths Demolition Division formed
Smiths Demolition Division formed.

1994
Smiths acquires land at Eastington
Smiths acquire land with a view of one day creating a Head Office.

1998
Work starts on Eastington
Work starts on Alkerton Court, Eastington – creating the Head Office.

2000
Smith's (Gloucester) Limited incorporated
Smith’s (Gloucester) Limited incorporated. New Divisional structure created. Waste Management Division formed.

Moreton Valence Waste Management Facility opened
Moreton Valence Waste Management Facility opened.

Smiths opens Waste Transfer Station in Tewkesbury
Smiths opens Waste Transfer Station in Tewkesbury.

Smiths completes it's first £1million contract
Smiths completes its first £1million Construction contract.

South Wales depot opened
South Wales Construction depot opened in Miskin. Closed in 2009.

Purpose-built Managed Recycling Facility installed
MRF installed at Moreton Valence.

Haulage fleet exceeds 100 vehicles for the first time

2nd Generation of the Smith family joins the company
First member of the 2nd Generation Smith family joins the Smiths business.

Recession hits
Recession causes Smiths to decrease number of tipper lorries and increase number of waste vehicles. Winners of the Stroud Life Awards – Green Business Of The Year 2010.

Smiths acquire a Skip Hire company in South Wales

Smiths opens Waste Transfer Station at Llandough Trading Estate, Cardiff. Winners of the Stroud Life Awards – Family Business Of The Year 2011.
