Inspiring the Next Generation: Monica Gregory Represents Smiths at Women in Construction Event

We are proud to celebrate the achievements of Monica Gregory, one of our talented Plant Operators, who recently represented Smiths at the South Gloucestershire and Stroud College’s Women in Construction event.

The event marked the launch of the college’s new Groundworks Apprenticeship, aimed at opening more pathways into the construction industry. Monica joined forces with Morgan Sindall Construction to speak about her personal journey and to encourage more women to explore careers in construction.

Monica began her career with Smiths in 2023 as a Plant Apprentice through AccXel Construction School, and has since progressed to a full-time role within our construction division. Her success is a powerful reminder that construction is not just a job — it’s a platform to build confidence, gain practical skills, and challenge industry norms.

Her story highlights that construction truly is a career path open to everyone — and one where people from all backgrounds can thrive.

If you’re considering a future in construction but unsure where to begin, we’d be happy to help you take the first step. Reach out to our recruitment team at recruitment@smiths-gloucester.co.uk
