Plant Operator- Avonmouth

Job Purpose

To operate plant and equipment as required and within own level of skill and competence. To load/unload and transport material, both processed and un-processed either into sorting plant, bailers, stockpiles or vehicles. To undertake work in a safe and efficient manner as instructed by site management. This role is based in our Avonmouth Depot


  • Operate within plant machinery operational limitations
  • Understand and be able to identify non-permitted waste including hazardous waste
  • Ensure liquid spills after refuelling are cleaned up correctly in line with standard operational procedures
  • Operate machinery in such a fashion that reduce dust emissions
  • Ensure a good standard of tidiness is maintained at all times
  • Exercise extreme care when manoeuvring in the proximity of pedestrians
  • Afford pedestrians the “Right of Way” priority at all times
  • Comply with site traffic mandatory instructions at all times
  • Ensure working area is kept clean, tidy and free of obstructions
  • Communication via radio with site management, yard and transfer shed personnel
  • Remain vigilant of movements in and out of depot
  • Ensure liaison with the Department Manager to maximise cost effective efficient productivity
  • Ensure that all environmental procedure is complied with
  • Observe all Health and Safety requirements and instructions at the site
  • Ensure the work is carried out within the deadlines, safely and efficiently, and to relay information accurately to the Site Supervisor.
  • Wear the appropriate PPE as instructed by standard operational procedures
  • Familiarising yourself with the Evacuation and Emergency procedures at the site, including the location and type of each fire extinguisher
  • To follow all instruction and direction from your supervisor
  • Carry out best practice and safe working practices
  • Undertake vehicle checks and routine maintenance as detailed in standard operating procedures and record information
  • Report any malfunction, unserviceability of equipment/tools immediately
  • Report any accident or injury immediately however small
  • Report any near accident or potential of an accident
  • Perform testing procedures to ensure that machines work optimally during the working process
