On the 1st of October 2003 Smith's opened their latest Skip Hire and Waste Management depot in Tewkesbury. The site covers an area of 2½ acres and includes a purpose built 20,000ft² building in which all the waste is processed. This new venture will enable Smith's, in conjunction with their existing Gloucester facility, to offer their full range of skip hire and roll on / roll off bin services from Kidderminster to the North, Swindon to the East, Bristol to the South and Monmouth to the West.
Smith's cater for both the domestic and commercial customer, many of whom would like to play their part in recycling but are not sure how to contribute. It's simple - order a Smith's skip or roll on / roll off and if there is any waste that can be recycled before going to landfill - it will be! Smith's aim to operate within a one-price structure regardless of where in the county or its surrounding areas your requirement may be.
"Our business is all about offering an honest and reliable service to our customers" said Alan Smith at the opening of the depot. "This facility in Tewkesbury gives us the opportunity to meet the needs of our customers over a much wider geographical area."
With the addition of this site Smith's can now offer a wider range of including 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 yard skips as well as 15, 20, 30, 40 and 50 yard roll on / roll offs.
The depot, which is situated just off junction 9 of the M5, is licensed by the Environment Agency and is designed to accept waste from a variety of sources including builders, demolition, groundworks, civil engineering contractors and other skip operators. The facility has a dedicated weighbridge and can cater for all vehicle sizes from light vans through to articulated trailors. All tipping is carried out on permanent surfaces. With their computerised systems, Smith's offers tipping facilities for the small builder and landscaper right through to large multi-nationals whose Environmental Management Systems demand that they dispose of their waste through a licensed company that mirrors their objectives in terms of recycling and sustainability.
As with the Moreton Valence site, Tewkesbury will focus on recycling and reclaiming as much of the incoming waste as possible therefore minimising the waste going to landfill. There are preferential rates for companies who can segregate wastes - e.g. hardcore, wood, pallets, soils and concrete. A recent investment in their own cardboard bailer means Smith's can now offer preferential rates to customers who generate a lot of cardboard waste.
The depot carries a range of recycled aggregates produced by Smith's own crushing and screening plant as well as primary aggregates, sands, gravels and mulches.
