Transport Infrastructure Construction
Smiths Construction is proud to have built a significant part of the South West's motorway and trunk route infrastructure. We have project managed major multimillion pound contracts using our experience and expertise to minimise traffic disruption by scheduling works intelligently and efficiently.
This infrastructure work is complemented by the successful completion of many estate roads, private roads and highway alteration projects.
Site Clearance and Earthworks
Smiths extensive fleet of modern excavators, dozers and dump trucks enables us to tackle site clearance and earthwork projects ranging from 1,000m³ to 200,000m³ contracts. We have a dedicated Earthworks Manager backed up by an in-house team of engineers and quantity surveyors. We have experience in both on and off-site earthworks and we are industry leaders in dealing sensitively and responsibly with the important environmental issues associated with these projects.
Foundations
We have wide experience if all types of foundation excavation and associated concrete works from simple deep mass concrete foundations to detailed pile cap construction and reinforced ground beams plus facilities to install both contiguous and sheet piled solutions either temporary or permanent. We are able to resource all aspects of this work in-house including formwork, steel fixing and concrete placement.
Sports Ground Construction
Smiths is rapidly gaining a reputation as a major player in Sports Facility construction in our region. From the demolition and rebuilding of the West Stand at Gloucester RFC's iconic Kingsholm Stadium and Worcester RFC's state of the art Sixways Stadium to the development of a brand new stadium for local football side Forest Green Rovers, Smiths breadth of services and knowledge has delivered first class facilities across the South West.

Drainage
Smiths have a number of trained drainage installation teams who are experienced in all types of drainage but particularly deep technical work. Our focus is always on the health and safety issues associated with this aspect of our business and especially in this safety critical environment. Each team receives regular training and support and are fully conversant with and qualified in confined entry procedures.
In-Situ Concrete Slabs
Smiths undertake both internal and external concrete slab construction. We are proficient in modern laying and finishing techniques and have a dedicated team who can lay up to 250m² per day allowing an economical and fast service for external yard areas and large internal slabs.

Land Fill Construction
Over many years Smiths have gained experience in modern landfill cell construction works with local and national operators incorporating the following operations:-
Bulk earth works moving volumes in excess of 500,000m3
Engineering clay liners incorporating clay conditioning techniques
Installation of geomembranes
Installation of gas collection pipework from pre-installed gas collection wells
Placement of engineer clay caps to complete cells and final placement of restoration soils and landscaping
All operations carried out under strict CQA control measures to meet ever increasing Environment Agency regulations and guidelines which may differ from site to site.
Smith’s Construction will undertake both main contractor and sub-contractor roles. However we operate we aim to offer a comprehensive service tailored to our customer's requirement. We will provide Key Performance Indicators working in partnership to achieve completion dates and budgets.
